Who are Syrian Christians?
It was said that when Vasco De Gama anchored his ship in Calicut, Kerala on May 20th 1498, he was surprised to see Christians in Kerala. Though there are many versions of how Christianity reached the shores of Kerala way before it reached Europe, the fact remains that Syrian Christians have been around in Kerala for a very long time, with their unique customs and traditions. Most of the recipes in this blog are the way generations of women in my family cooked the food.
This blog is a gift to my oldest daughter. It is my way of taking her through a culinary journey, hoping that she would get a glimpse of the traditions and culture of our Syrian Christian ancestry, of which she is the latest link.
